ABSTRACT
This study examines the association between social media use and suicidal ideation as a suicidal behavior. Using a national online panel sample of South Korean adults, the study analyzes the mediating mechanism by which social media use is associated with suicidal ideation through social capital and self-esteem. This study focuses on the communicative use of social media, that is, the extent to which users communicate with or contact other users, such as friends, family, or new behavior. acquaintances, given that social media have been designed for social interaction and interpersonal communication. Social media use for communication with other users who show similar interests or have different views can help establish new relationships or maintain existing relation ships.
