ABSTRACT

A survey was conducted in order to investigate factors that might influence smartwatch acceptance using a structural equation model (SEM). The technology acceptance model (TAM) was used as the main theoretical model and we attempted to overcome the limitations of the TAM by adding three external variables: health consciousness, self-efficacy, and innovativeness. Six latent variables in the study were verified through maximum likelihood estimation and it was found that they had both convergent validity and discriminant validity. According to the results of SEM, the model used for the study had an acceptable model fit. Additionally, all hypotheses were accepted other than one path from perceived ease of use to intention to use. This study is meaningful because it considers the health functions of the smartwatch and attempts to understand acceptance intentions through user perspective variables.
