ABSTRACT

The sound of the media stimulates a sense of hearing and cognition so that the user can understand the situation of space in the media more easily and effectively transmitting the information. In that aspect, the sound effects play an important role to convey contents in the game. The various sound effects that are performed in video game may enhance the user’s game mood and help keep users naturally focused on the game by maintaining a sense of tension with the game progress. Especially, natural sound effects in the game may increase flow and realism to the user along with background music of the game. This study was conducted through Playtest experiment methodology to verify the spatial presence and flow, emotional self-control, aggressive attitude, and aggressive behavior effects according to the degree of reality of the game effect sound. The experiment used the FPS game 'Left 4 Dead 2', and carried out by treating the weapon effect sound differently to the 80 college students (male 40, female 40). As a result, Spatial Presence, Flow, and Emotional Self-Control showed higher level in realistic effect sound game. Also, the aggressive attitude showed a higher level in games using realistic weapon effect sound. This study provides a theoretical implication on future game effect sound design in that the reality of the effect sound can affect the user 's experience, emotion and aggression.
